Be exotic be exentric and tell me what is the best linux distro for you! I personally favor Kubuntu! It has the same essence of ubuntu but with a better style! |

I prefer Ubuntu, because a lot of app developers develop in Ubuntu (within Linux). I also like how it is a good desktop replacement, because some Linux distributions aren't that user friendly (but the good ones are the most popular). I prefer Ubuntu over the competitors because I can send them a link to a website (Ubuntu's website), and they can know everything they need to know about it so that they can feel comfortable to use the operating system before they actually do use it. |

I've attempted to like a wide range of Linux distributions. Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, Mandriva, Suse, etc... In the end, I found none of them to be acceptable for day-to-day usage. The lack of standards across the board is always a problem. None of the GUI environments are entirely usable (Gnome is too minimal and KDE is a mess, I could go on for hours about their various issues). Hardware support has been an issue with every single distro I've tried. Ubuntu is now at the very bottom of my list as far as Linux distros go. Very obvious bugs and shortcomings that I've attempted to log with the developers as bugs get constantly closed as "design decisions." (I'm sorry ubuntu dev team, but a checkbox that says "remove icons from menus" that doesn't remove icons from menus IS A BUG!) Their forums weren't all that helpful either, nobody could give me a satisfactory answer as to why Ubuntu didn't properly support VMWare's hardware set (one of the most standard hardware sets you can imagine). I guess if I had nothing else available, I'd pick Fedora as the least-problematic. I'd still much rather use Windows, though... |

I'v always been a devoted Ubuntu user from the day they released, and have only used a few other distros only to find that they weren't nearly as good. |
