Hello, my friend called me up earlier today, and told me there was going to be another draft. He's says they're only taking people who are 18, nobody else. What's up with this? Is this true? Is there any way to not get drafted? And why did they choose to only draft people who are 18? Thanks for any help! |

You're been pranked or at least misinformed. There is not going to be a return of the Selective Service involuntary draft anytime soon. Every now and then, a member of Congress will mention bringing it back (which is probably what your friend is referring to,) but bringing back the draft has never been seriously entertained, to my knowledge. These things work in cycles. There was talk of bringing back the draft when I was a junior in high school (1991) due to the Gulf War (Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.) Why did the draft come up back then? Due to relatively good economic times and the end of the Cold War, large cuts had been made in the military ranks and steadily declining rates of enlistment shrunk the military services further. And you Ma'am are dead wrong. It's coming. 4
You're mistaken, but you're welcome to believe whatever you want. |
