sure thing, this is the best definition i found:

"A service pack (in short SP) is a collection of updates, fixes and/or enhancements to a software program delivered in the form of a single installable package." - Service Pack - Wiki

said that, take a look to the improvements made on vista SP1: Notable Changes in Windows Vista Service Pack 1

btw if you can, you should install win7 instead, is way much better. but that's your choice :)

Yes, you should update to the latest possible service pack. You should also get any other patches that are available. Service Packs and patches are meant to make your computer more secure. It will NOT remove or change any of your personal files or programs. The only other thing I can say is Always install the latest patches, service packs, and updates as soon as they come out! If you do, your computing experiences will go way up and you greatly reduce the possibility of getting viruses.

Yes, get the latest service pack. It won't change any of your configuration, settings, files or drivers. New service packs are great because they fix security flaws.

Yes you should definately install it. Gives a lot of updates in 1 package, lots of bugfixes and more. Also get SP2 after that, which makes Vista even less buggy.

If it were an option, sure I would suggest you switch to Windows 7 like the others, but that was not the question.

Yes, install SP1, it has a lot of important patches in there, I always recommend to co-workers and family members that they try to keep up with the patches if they want to have a secure machine. Then I would install SP2 after that.

Hey, Good question but you may try to update to latest SP2 for Vista! Its way better than SP1.

Make sure that you update your PC with latest updates from microsoft using Windows Update Application.

Cheers! ;)

Absolutely. it's either that or go back to XP or forward to 7. It's not like updating is a bad thing.
