How much is your smartphone plan costing you? - Unlimited Data or Capped?

alt text

How a $200 phone ends up costing $3,290 ... There are phenomenal phones on the market, but most come with charges that add up quickly. > What is That New Phone Really Going to Cost?

... You'll pay more for an iPhone 4 ($200 for the 16GB memory, $300 with the 32GB memory, with contract) unlimited plan at AT&T. The iPhone's unlimited plan will run you $115 a month. But don't forget that the AT&T unlimited plan is no longer unlimited. New customers are capped at 2GB of data a month, with a $10 per gigabyte charge when you go over the limit. By AT&T's count only 2 percent of its users exceed 2 gigabytes a month ...

... In the end, the HTC HD2, the most economical choice, would cost about $2,600 while the Droid X costs about $3,290 over a two-year contract, a savings of nearly $700 ...

After reading the Yahoo! Article, I had to quadruple check my iPhone 3G[s] Plan. To my relief, I still have my Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan with 5800+ Rollover Minutes at ~$80/month.

I just rented a movie off of iTunes, and that was 1GB. I don't know what I'd do if I was capped at 2GB, then $10/GB additional. That means a new iPhone user will be paying no less than $115/month, that's $2760 + Cost of the iPhone & Accessories!!

Yeah, but that's for the apps and accessories, you paid for service, hardware, and software. You're obligated to pay the service charge, your not obligated to pay for apps and accessories.

Indeed. When I bought my iPhone 3G[s], added Ghost Armor, MobileMe, AV Cables, etc. Not obligated, but recommended.

Dear r0bErT4u, I am sorry and did not realize that it was OK to put jailbreak stuff onto this website and to your request I will kindly STOP.

Thanks,

Danish,

No worries. It's okay to mention, but not go into details how to?! Good job on the guard watching. Have a great day!

About $1200 per year, was getting at same amount with my dumb phone on Verizon. I have the iPhone now, so it was totally worth it since my dad isn't paying more.

It's no surprise cell companies bleed you dry. Which is why I have a pay-as-you-go phone that I keep in my car for emergencies. It only costs me $100 a year for 400 minutes or so. Since I rarely do voice calls (and I do mean -rarely-), they just rollover the next year.

I use my ipod touch to send emails&txt, watch video, and generally browse the web. No monthly fee needed for that, as long as I have wi-fi around (which I always do).

I paid €609 for my iPhone 3GS pre pay, now all I have to do is spend €40 a month topping it up. So not too much really.

It's funny, because other countries have faster Internet than the US, and at a fraction of the cost.

Just get a pocket PC, a decent one is well under $200 and runs windows mobile which has a ton of freeware available to it. and best of all no monthly fee, just live off of wifi hotspots and if needed tether to your free cellphone provided by the phone company for internet when no hotspots are available.

Pocket PC= good hardware for much less money and no monthly fees. and since skype is out for windows mobile you can still call people.

My iPhone 4 cost me £89 plus £40 a month for 2 years so works out around 900 odd for the 2 years
