Why did I have to validate my email?

After I submitted my last question, it said "question is pending you validate your email." But my login info isn't stored on this site, it's stored on Twitter (I use my twitter account to login), so why would this site require a validation of an email stored on the twitter database?

I'm just wondering why that would even be an issue.
