Sometimes we refer to repeating thought patterns as a recording that gets stuck in our heads (kind of like an iPod set to "repeat"). This is a kind of brain fart (can't help it, happens naturally, and eventually disperses) What do you personally do when you have a brain fart that isn't dispersing fast enough? What tips, tricks, or techniques consistently work to get your brain on its way to thinking about something else? BTW, Cartman on South Park tells Stan to sing the song "Come Sail Away" as fast as he can when Stan can't shake the song out of his head. So, I'm looking for other suggestions I can pass along to folks who ask me this all the time. |

If it's related to some sort of Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), seek medical treatment. I usually go with it. I'll play song(s) I like 'til I get satisfaction. Bad annoying songs I've trained myself to skip. I treat most of my obessions this way. If it's some sort of addiction, replace it with something, then gradually wean off that thing. |
