Well your connection kit is probably the best option at the moment but if you wait a couple of months there have been some companies that have been rumored to make a camera connection kit. |

Personally I'd feel ridiculous holding a 9.7" slate in front of my face in public to take a picture. Just use a cell phone or an actual camera. |

Why not just get a DSLR, then superglue it to the top frame of the ipad. You will get the benefit of a latency free live preview of what you want to take a picture of. (the eyefi card will not give you a live preview and it is not the fastest responding card, it is also very expensive and performs significantly slower than the much cheaper sandisk extreme SD cards. The ipad will still be very portable and look cool because while others around you are stuck with their 2mm lens crappy cellphone camera, you will have a full frame camera with better image quality and better dynamic range. And best of all, you will still get that sleek apple look from your ipad with minimal bulk. Here are some sample pics of how it might look, it is an almost perfect fit and adds so little bulk that it can easily slip into a purse or coat pocket after that, you can transfer pictures using a ipad sd card reader
