I moved to CA about 4 years ago and have noticed that I lose my signal when in the back of a store. Does this happen to everyone (at least that the signal gets weaker)? Or is it just that I have a crappy phone (a free one when you sign a contract) or service provider (T-mobile) or both. When I lived in Germany I never had a problem with signal strength inside buildings big or small even though the phone I had back then was even crappier than the one I have now.

sometimes you lose a signal. it depends on if your closer to the cell phone tower or not close to a cell phone tower. If your close to the cell tower you will get a signal but you not than no you wont get a signal.

You will always lose some signal if there is more things in your way. For example, a brick wall is going to weaken the strength compared to having a straight line to the cell phone tower.

Maybe they build their buildings differently and have different materials in the walls.

I haven't noticed that problem at all. Naturally the more things between you and the tower the worse signal you get, metal is by far the worst.

I'm on AT&T and tend to have slightly lower signal when in stores. Not too bad, though.
