I just built a New Desktop computer with:

Asus M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core Processor at 3.0 GHZ and 2GB of DDR3 memory

It seems like the computer is not all that fast from my old eMachines T3656 Desktop. Is there something else I need to do or am i just expecting to much?

Sounds like a good setup. Maybe try upgrading to 4GB of RAM?

Flash drives won't provide the performance boost RAM gives, as RAM is many, many, many times faster than any flash drive.

Ya I would go with the RAM because Vista eats up allot of RAM. Microsoft recomends 1GB just for the OS.

i just looked that emachine up. its a celeron dual core 1.6.. you dont feel a big difference between a dual core and a quad core. raw computing power you got alot more. in high end grafik games you should have massive amounts of framerate compared to the other one (as long you dont have a shitty grafik card which becomes a bottleneck and slows all down)

also the thing that makes it "feel" faster is not the cpu ect. it feels alot faster when you have a faster hdd so programms load quicker and windows boots up faster. i once swapped my very old 45Mb/s hdd to 2x 75Mb/s in raid stripe(ended up at 140mb/s which is not fast for raid in stripe with quality hdds but still lightspeed compared to the old one). windows started up after 28 seconds, most of that beeing bios screen. all programs that i started felt like they loaded up instant.

also! readyboost REALY helps with low ram machines like 1gb. tried it on my singlecore 1.6ghz netbook with 1gb. as soon i swapped to 2gb i didnt noticed any difference anymore between readyboost or without.

so if you want that programs starts faster check out the speed of your hdd and think about a new one.
