If you could take 1 thing (a peace of modern technology)
back in time with you to show people,
what would you take?
And how far back would you go?

I would go back to about 1990 and show off my iPhone.

I would go back to about 1900 (about when cars were just starting to become commercially produced.
And I would take a Bugatti Veyron.

I would load my laptop with the lastest worldly events, and past 15 years of world history, and go back to before Bush ran for office. I'd show him and the world what it would be like if he ever ran for office and just how bad he screwed everything up for everyone alive today.

This is so tragic and devastating. In my opinion, this is the worst moment in modern history. It's tantamount to WW II and the devastation that followed. Both were horrible. My life will never be the same.

No GSM, yet. The internet was accessed primarily via dial-up modem. An iPhone/iPad would be reduced to showing movies, taking pictures/videos, and playing music.

I'd bring back my Loaded HP TabletPC, because most of it's technology would work back in time. Dial-up Modem slowness. Mozilla/Netscape was my browser of choice. Macintosh IIfx ...

I'd like to go back to the late 1970's to early 1980's.

I'd have several goals:

Save my mother's life from cancer
Prolong the lives of my Grandma & Grandpa via exercise & diet
Invest heavily in the Stock Market (already know when/what stocks to buy/sell)
Win only the big lottery jackpots (avoid drawing attention)
I'd help Apple, Inc. win their lawsuit against Microsoft & HP
Etc.
Prevent 911
Prevent Columbine
Go to visit very young Obama, and scare the $h!+ out of him
Etc.

Since you've posted a picture of a PC, I didn't really like this post...also that you wouldn't take an iPhone fanboy =D, but I voted it up for 3 things...to save your mother's life, to prevent 9/11, and to scare the crap out of Obama, possibly altering the future therefore making Obama not the president.

It's no secret that I'm angry at Obama & Administration. I already emailed that fool how to repay China, Payoff the National Debt, and a One Time Bailout for ALL Tax Payers, but they probably won't do it.

For 70s/early 80s you got modem slowness right! You do realize that modems were limited to around 300 Baud, right? The only thing you'd be accessing on the "Internet" (if you want to call it that...it was more like the Compuserve network or Prodigy, unless you had access to the University networks or limited it to local BBSs) would be text files (download-able via FTP and accessed through Gopher), and the only "pictures" you would be getting would be ASCII art, which would take as long to download as pictures do now with 56k dial-up.

"Mozilla/Netscape was my browser of choice." - Didn't exist back then...neither did Windows. Best you could do was either DOS or Unix.

Is this just a one-off trip back in time? Or can we travel multiple times. If I knew when and where I was travelling to, then I would load my laptop with relevant information and "invent this stuff myself". Hmmmm, maybe even combine the best of Windows and the best of Apple.

Let's see...200 years ago would be 1810...I think almost anything you brought back to that time from now would be almost beyond their comprehension. You could bring back a simple calculator from the '70s and they would be scratching their heads!

As has been said elsewhere, they'd probably burn you for being a witch!
