I am fixing a Dell Inspiron 6000 and it just simply wont boot up. When you press the power button, it turns on, lights up but then just cuts off and wont boot after 2 seconds of pressing the power button. We have took it apart, checked harddrive but cant find the problem. Any help?

I have the same problem with a pretty recent Compaq laptop. I don't know why it does this, what the problem is, or how it can be fixed.

does anything appear on the screen? if not i had what is probably the exact same problem and the fix is to replace the motherboard. hit f12 (i think) as you boot to go into the diagnostics...

it sounds like it's either thermal cut out or the motherboard could just be knackered, in which case i would just throw it out.
