what is the make of the laptop, there is most likely a recovery built in. with HP's look out during the post splash screen it should say something like press F11 for recovery. pressing F11 will take you to the recovery partition of the HDD where you can return to factory settings. For ACERs you need to hold alt and F10, with Toshiba you need to tap F8 during boot and choose repair your computer form the list of options where you can do factory reset. im not very familiar with any other makes...

The recovery disk is usually specific to that laptop. It would have specific drivers for that hardware. First option would be checking the manufactor site for your model and maybe you could download one. I know on my acer theres a option for me to create a new one within windows.

You can download the Vista recovery disk from here: Follow instructions at Neosmart's website to download it, and SAVE that ISO to your Desktop: http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/

Then download the ISO Burner, and Copy the ISO Image to Disk: ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

Good luck.

Most manufacturers will sell you the disc- and it is "pressed" vs. burned- better quality. Check the source first- if they won't help, ask where to go.
