I'm tired of not being able to download certain files that are to hard to find any where ells but p2p file sharing programs safely. it seems like every time I open up one of these programs someone is trying to hack me or give me a virus. how can I use these programs with out such a high risk?

Only download files from reputable websites.
Check the contents of the .torrent file when the program opens it. Most P2P clients will list all the files in the torrent that will be downloaded when you add it to the client.
You might want to use filter software such as [http://phoenixlabs.org] which adds that extra layer of protection.
After you've downloaded the programs/files, scan them using an up-to-date virus checker.
Hope this helps! : http://phoenixlabs.org
