Hey lads and ladies,

This is my laptop{Dont start, I know} Dell Vostro 1000 Mobile AMD Sempron 3600+ 2.00GHZ 2GB DDR2 at 250Mhz Dell 0WY383 MB [Socket M2/S1G1] ATI Xpress 1150 500GB Seagate(Aftermarket)

I've bought a TL-60 Turion64X2 @2GHZ [secondhand] CPU. Fitted it and I dont even reach POST, just get a flash, single spin of the fan and a few cycles of the HDD and DVD drives. Checked everything twice, still nothing. Replace the Sempron, working fine :|

So, other than the Turion being a dud, what could be the problem?

Thanks, Simon.

Have you tried updating your motherboard's firmware to see if that enables more support for different processors?

I'm 90% sure its up to date, will check, and in any case Dell have shipped with that proc from the start, so it should be supported in all revisions.

I think the poster means "incompatible", the new CPU is incompatible with the motherboard.

I've checked, definitely compatible.

I've left the CMOS batt out for five, but there are no jumpers I can see to do a proper reset....

Would disabling quickboot help?

I cant find a descript definition of what tests it actually disables.

You may need to flash the BIOS. Have you tried that? Otherwise, it is probably incompatible.
