I wonder what you think about tablets vs. netbooks. Which is better for you, easier to use and stuff like that.

As someone who does a good deal of content creation, most of which is writing, a tablet really serves very little use to me. My requirement of a good keyboard also puts most netbooks out to pasture, although my Google Cr-48 still sees a great deal of use. I am quite intrigued by the WebOS Touchpad, but my love for it is more as a toy than a productivity device. For content consumption, and for some very limited business functions like presentations, I can see the tablet's superiority. Otherwise, the netbook will win, unless I can find a laptop - and I still prefer the traditional ultra-portable laptop above all.

I think that tablet PC's would be even more popular if they were cared for a little more. The problem with tablet PC's is that there is no OS that is optimized for a tablet, that is why Apple added the iOS to their iPads instead of a badly optimized version of OSX. I think that if apple were to use their touch screens with a specialized OS then it would be a hit. Apples touchscreens are far superior to anything previous, but the OS is lacking. Eventually Apple, or some other company should create their own OS with the functions and abilities of other OS's but with only the thought of touch in mind.

With netbooks, its a different story. I like netbooks because they are so portable and offer a very fast running environment, but the loss of a CD drive is very upsetting to me. Honestly as of now I need CD drives to install applications, but if programs like Flash and Photoshop were ever released on flashdrives then I would be okay with netbooks. Though they will never replace good old notebook computers for people on the go that are constantly moving about, netbooks are the way to go until optimized tablet PC's exist.

When it comes to notebooks, I would always spend at least around $1000 for a moderately good one. Netbooks are in the category of subnotebooks, and by definition are designed to be a smaller, inexpensive laptop for general purpose use and web surfing. They tend to be marketed as a companion or accessory to a full fledged computer rather than being used as a primary one itself.

To me, a netbook is a cheap, stripped down, overly subsidized, volume based notebook. They have a cramp keyboard on most, some don't even have a trackpad, the resolution is awful unless you spend more on higher end netbooks, but by then why not just get a full notebook? They're nice for small experimental, temporary, or educational use based on their pricing, but other than that, I wouldn't buy one.

The so called netbook line has been tried before and failed to take off, most experts consider Apple's eMate to be the first try at this, and later in 1999 the Psion netBook line, both failed to start a new market that lasted.

netbooks are easier to use, unless you have a tablet PC in which you still have a physical keyboard.

the only problem is that in the consumer market, tablet PC's never really caught on for some reason. (well they were overpriced and underpowered compared to a laptop)
