Nintendo's own application distribution platform has been around for over a year now, and I've seen many innovative applications so far, but few that capture the "wow factor" that many iOS and Android apps have. This is partly due to many applications on this platform having a hard time finding a market for their application, whether it's a gaming application, lifestyle application, etc. This, I believe, is partly due to Nintendo's DSiware (available through the aptly named "DSi Shop") entering the mobile market with little appeal compared to other mobile application platforms, such as Apple's App Store and Google's Android Marketplace, as many of the applications available on launch or available shortly after launch were both overpriced and had little appeal compared to free applications on many other mobile application marketplaces. So, my question is, how can Nintendo increase the popularity of DSiware, and does Nintendo have to re-think their strategy as far as mobile applications are concerned in order to increase the popularity of DSiware? |
