Does your phone plan charge you when you text to twitter even you have an unlimited texting plan?

It depends on the service. Usually not.

If you are afraid, there is a service called ping.fm that can send you message from many ways (IM, Email, text message, etc) to many service at once (facebook, twitter, buzz, etc.). So you can try that out.
