I know almost everything changes, but I'm looking for things done a certain way for many years. Why have these things been passed on from generation to generation without major changes? Is it habit, tradition, etc.

You think the QWERTY keyboard layout has stayed the same? There are hundreds of variations of the EN_US layout alone, and I don't even want to start thinking about all the international ones. If you mean it hasn't been replaced by anything...not in wide usage, no. There is a competing layout called Dvorak, which boasts higher typing efficiency due to less average finger movement. The problem is, QWERTY has been in use for so long that it's what most people learn (and nobody wants to take the time to relearn how to type on a new layout). |

You don't think Playboy has changed? Most of the Internet is porn. Most of Playboy is articles. It's an obsolete medium, along with all other magazines ever. Elastic has obsoleted the shoelace. I wear laceless shoes, and far prefer them over legacy laced shoes. Sushi knives have been obsoleted by individually wrapped servings, restaurants, deli slicers, etc. ctrl-alt-delete has been obsoleted by ctrl-shift-ESC. Let's face it, we generally use it to get to the task manager anyway. What hasn't changed is people. People are still the same aggressive, animal-like, god-fearing, murdering pigdogs we have been for millions of years. I don't see that changing any time soon. |
