Hi Guys

I host my own websites and other people website, on a server like godaddy.com's servers. I want to start hosting my self and host outright other people website. I wanted to ask you guys what you think would be the best type of server, size ( RAM MB,ect ) would be best to do this?

Windows and IIS or Linux and Apache, depending on what you're most familiar with.

Of course you could run Apache on Windows, but that's silly.

Any old system will do, unless you expect heavy traffic. If you expect heavy traffic, you won't be able to get enough upstream bandwidth anyway. Bare minimum I'd say is a 1GHz processor with 1GB RAM.

Windows i would like to use, as used it a lot more then linux. would u say a stand alone server?

2 might help. allow for more redundency, just make sure you set up both name servers

Depends on so many things: Estimated traffic, CPU load, and how much spare money or how many spare computers you have lying around. I have a server that does nothing but serve my website and files (locally), and it's idle 90% of the time.
