I am a student age 16. I need a laptop or a notebook to carry around with me and use for my work Internet and email. So I was wondering if the iPad could replace the laptop and I could use the iPad.

An iPad is a laptop. Over the years the term "laptop" has been mislead and confused, it's a very general term. A Laptop is any form of a microcomputer that is portable and suitable for tavel, and in most cases is usable by laying it in your "lap". There's also the less known, palmtop, which is similar to a laptop but is used primary by holding it in your palm and doing one handed inputs. The iPad is both a laptop and a palmtop. A Notebook is a sub category of a laptop that takes the form of a.. well notebook (if anyone even knows what that is anymore).
I have an iPad and I use it as a laptop, palmtop, and even an assisting desktop when at my desk. My primary uses are email, RSS, twitter, FTP, Networking utility, Word processing, web development, Notes, Calendar, videos, music, web surfing, video games, IRC, IM, Cellular Text Message, Internet Radio, VNC, Remote control, wireless Trackpad, ebay, Stocks, and Wireless Flash drive / portable storage.
