There are 5 levels of social types.

There is the Dork. Everybody knows a dork at one point or another. They are basically Milhouse from the Simpsons. They don't know very much and aren't very good with social encounters.

There is the Norm. Just as knowledgable as a Dork of the same age, but is able to socialize. This type is known as "Norm" because this is what everyone considers to be normal.

There is the Nerd. Nerds are very knowledgable, usually about computers. The Simpsons equivalent would be Martin and his friends. They tend to know far too much about one particular topic and are more than willing to talk about it, but also aren't very good at socializing.

There is the Cool Person. Cool people are a step up from Norms. They can take the shape of bullies or trend leaders. They are very good at socializing and have become popular. They still don't tend to know very much, but knows enough to get around in life.

Finally, there is the Geek. Geeks, in my opinion, are the ultimate goal. They know a decent amount about a lot of things and know far too much about one or two things. They are also fairly social, being able to converse with everyone but the "Cools" most of the time. The perfect example of a Geek is probably Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, or anyone else along those lines. Geeks don't need to know about technology, though, as long as they are able to socialize and know far too much about at least one thing.

This is all my opinion, of course, but you will find these are quite useful descriptions for these labels.

To me, a geek is someone who likes something that most people don't like. A nerd is someone who likes something most people don't like and is weird.

Geeks, usually tend to be good at computer related stuff; code, programming, internet, etc. Nerds, on the other side, have a lack of social skills, and like to learn more about math and aren't good at sports... That's just my opinion, i might be totally wrong, but that's how things go in albuquerque.
