I am interested in purchasing a computer for gaming. However, most of my computer games are for PC (Windows) only. Any suggestions on what specs I should get. I will purchase from mainly Dell, but any other company is fine so log as it's legit.

I was looking for something under $1200 as that is what my current computer cost. I like consistency in my life

From a builder's point of view- if gaming is your interest, you're always better off putting your own system together. OEM's tend to use a cobbled BIOS (many, if not all tuning-tweaks removed) to cut down on their possible support issues later.

Building your own means you can choose the best possible parts (price/reviews). It's not rocket science & easily doable by anyone able to Google if they run into something they have a question about. I use extremetech.com forums a lot for ideas/reviews on systems & they have many user-noted builds that will recommend something to your liking, I'm sure. From there, I use newegg.com for reviews.

My young kids & I put together two systems this past month, one AMD Hex & one Intel i7. They both went together in an hour & the kids loved it!

Maybe you can have a look at Alien Pc's. These computers are made specifically for gaming. http://www.alienware.com/

Well since I'm not a fan of Dell, I'd say that Dell being your primary choice for manufacturer is a bad idea. Dell is better for businesses and schools because they offer low prices for bulk buyers. I would not waste time on a pc by Dell for gaming. Alienware has sold out to Dell but they're still okay for gaming. Over all, I would say do like geekomatic suggested. I build my own all the time, you just have to have a little knowledge about what you're doing. Good luck on the hunt for the ultimate gaming computer.

I am guessing a computer with a quad core processor to an i5 or i7 processor, lots of ram 6-8gb ram, a good video card and a standard DVD drive.

Hmm...sounds like what I had in mind. Maybe I'll check again tomorrow to see if there is anything with those specs within my budget
