All you need is a Docking Station (aka. Port Replicator), and plug the external monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

Yes, you just need a VGA, DVI, HDMI cable. Either one work's as long as you have that port on both your laptop and other monitor. If you have HDMI and have a little more to spend on the cord, I recommend HDMI. It will give you the best quality.

Yeah, but you'd have to take the screen off the computer or else that would act as the main display.

Yes, if your laptop has a monitor cable (via VGA, DVI, HDMI) connection, it can act as a computer tower. In some cases, an extra monitor can act as a secondary monitor (or dual monitor).

Yes you can, you will need to plug the monitor into the vga port (blue 15 pin socket) once in windows usually on a laptop you will need to press a key combination to send the video to the newly attached monitor, usually Fn + F5 or similar, look at the function keys along the top of keyboard one should have a little picture of 2 screens. You can then configure the newly attached screen in display properties.

Hope this helps
