You would think a video card would be able to handle all visual appearance, so whats the point of a graphics card?

there is no difference between a video card and a graphics card.its the different name of the same thing.but now a days grphics card is more used.

They are different.

One is one for people who can spell GRAPHICS....

Graphics Card and Video Card are the same, just different ways of referring to it. I personally prefer calling it a Video Card (It sounds better)...The Video Card is responsible for rendering and putting out all the visual elements on your screen. whether it be Windows Aero UI, or game graphics, it's all rendered from the Video Card. Some cards even have a physics processor built-in for calculating complex polygon shapes, like the fluidity of water or other liquids.

Now if you're thinking about capturing video, there is a Video Capture Card which pulls in a video signal like High Definition, and allows you to compress and save it for use in editing software, like Premiere Pro or Final Cut.
