I got my Toshiba L455 Satellite laptop March 2010, it's a good computer. When should I update, I was thinking to wait at least 2 and a half years or even 3 years. I use it for downloads and everyday tasks. When I do upgrade what do I use to import my software to another computer or do I just redownload and everything. Please answer. :)

Laptop Specs.

every 2 years, 3 days and 17 hours. That's exactly when you need to upgrade.

I like to get a new computer every 2 - 5 years. It all depends on how I am with the machine and if all my software works well with the hardware. If you notice a significant change in speed or most new software can't run on your computer, that's a good time to upgrade. So about 4 years. I usually redownload if I need to.

It really depends on what you use it for, what the specs are and how out of date everything is. I use mine for building websites, making videos and writing for Lockergnome. I like to upgrade every 4-5 years. Just so you know, I use a Mac. And even a mac from a few years ago can have a current OS and be very compatible with many things.

Besides maybe a memory upgrade, my laptops seem to last about 5 years before I truly feel like I need a new one.

From what I've seen from personal experience with 3 friends who have gotten Toshiba Satellites, they always seem to last about 3 years and then suddenly start running into problems (this is personal experience though, not a researched and informed data).

Based on your laptop's specs, I'd say it should last you about 2.5-years.

I'd say it will last at least five years, but it will be of little use beyond 2 years. You'd still be able to use it as a typing machine and such, but it wouldn't handle fully updated programs. I'd just buy a new one in two to three years and keep it as a spare.

I only upgrade my computer when it is dead and their is no way of fixing it or if it takes 1 hour to turn on.
