Since it's a contract, it would be the age in that country at which a person can legally enter into a binding contract. Here in the United States, a minor legally becomes an adult at 21 years of age (can legally drink & so forth,) although 18 year olds are often considered adults in various capacities -- they can enlist in the U.S. military at that age, among other things. If a person's below the legal age, an adult (parent, etc.) can counter-sign for the minor and it's their assets that are on the hook in the event the minor defaults the contract/don't keep up with payments/etc. NOTE: I'm not a lawyer and this is just what I recall from my experiences as a minor and young adult in the USA. I'm in my mid-late 30's now. |

18 in America. .................................... |

18 in Mainland Britain, also you can't be a valid "witness" for another person signing a contract under that age. My brother got turned down for a job at T-mobile on the basis he could not do that. Well, we all learn from somewhere :) |
