Hi,

I have a Dell desktop pc and it has windows xp home on it, only thing is is when i plug in a usb device such as my usb stick it suddenly changes to the blue screen of death and then i have to unplug it and then restart my computer (by holding the power button), ive tried booting up with the usb device plugged in but while its booting up it goes the the blue screen.

Any ideas how to fix it ?

If all usb devices do this, the I would put the blame on the usb driver. Some software could have corrupted it or a 3rd party driver took control of it. You could try removing the current drivers, reboot and see if windows will auto detect the device, if not, go to Dell and try to find the drivers from their site and install those. If the Dell's support pages don't provide you with any help, I would just reinstall windows. Usually that is the fastest way to deal with these issues and you will get a nice fast PC when you are all done. If that doesn't fix it, then it is probably a hardware issue and I would contact Dell about if it is still under warranty.
