first you need to set your coumpter to a static ip this is done from your router then go to this site and find your router and follow the instruction http://portforward.com/

Linksys is a BITCH when it comes to ports. You're probably just better off getting a netgear if you want open ports.

While you don't need to set any static IP addresses to set up port forwarding, you'd be dumb not to since local IP addresses will change all the time if you don't set a static IP. Doing so is quite easy on any OS. If you have a Linksys router, setting up port forwarding is quite easy. All you have to do is type your default gateway (most likely 192.168.1.1) into the URL bar of a browser on a computer that's connected to the router you want to set up port forwarding on. The username then should be 'admin', and the password should be blank (unless you've previously set one here). Most likely (well, I've had a couple Linksys routers and they've all been this way), you're going to want to click on 'Applications and Gaming' toward the upper right, and make sure that you're looking at 'Single Port Forwarding'. You can set different external ports but internal ports must be correct for the protocol you're using (for example, you could set up SSH on one box as having the external port as being anything other than the default port, but the internal port would still have to be 22; you'd then have to type [the IP your ISP has given you or your domain]:[external port number you assigned]). You then want to send it to the static IP you assigned the box you're trying to get it to go to and enable it (and save your changes of course). And then you of course want to make sure that the box with that static IP is set up properly for what you want it to be listening out for (so if you're forwarding VNC, you want to set up and enable VNC on the machine you want to access...obviously). I was in the same boat as you about a month ago, so I hope what I just wrote here helps!
