I am soon going to be buying an iMac, and would like to set up Time Machine. I was just wondering how many GBs would be enough? |
I have a 1TB HDD inside my iMac with a 500GB partition on a external drive which is used for Time Machine. If I am honest its not really enough. I would say have the Time Machine drive the same size, if not bigger than your computers HDD (or SSD). |
1T I have one and its almost full with my back ups. and 1T isn't very much money. |
It really depends on what you want to do. Regardless of your primary use of the computer, I would suggest no less than 250GB. |
It depends on what you are using your mac for. Just surfing the web and writing some email's – 250Gb video editing, lot's of programing and things of that kind – 1Tb, To be safe for a long time. |
No less than the size of your primary Hard Disk on your Mac. |
The backup drive should be twice the size of your computer's hard drive. It should be at least the size of it, otherwise you won't get more than a few backups in before it's full. I have a GB hard drive in my Mac, and a 1TB external. It's already full. |
Generally speaking, the rule is your external hard drive should be at least the size of your internal hard drive. My mac's hard drive is 1TB big. Therefore, I have recently purchased me a 1TB WD Elements SE external HDD. I have kept that external HDD specifically for time machine backups. |
