It seems people getting 7ft tall seems to be a new normal. Where I live, I know 3 people who are 7ft tall or greater. I ask myself, why are people growing so tall? How long will this continue? Could it be the high standard of living? The food we eat?

Or are they just growth abnormalities?

I think it's most likely adaptation more so than "evolution" nonsense.

@blazeeagle Evolution occurs because of adaptation.

That's like saying Jesus has nothing to do with "god" nonsense.

No it's not. Even IF evolutiion is true, An ultimate creator has to exist.

(Aug 22 '10 at 16:57) BlazeEagle BlazeEagle's gravatar image

@BlazeEagle That depends how you look at it. Just because you believe that an ultimate creator has to exist, doesn't mean everyone has to.

@BlazeEagle Adaption is a form of evolution. In the sense that, we are physically evolving (getting taller) inva way that will have us adapt to our environment. And why can't both evolution and an ultimate creator both exist? Who am I to say that God created us with the intention of staying the same? Maybe he wanted us to evolve and adapt? Who am i to decided what he wanted?

@BlazeEagle, if you believe in physical adaptations and not in Evolution, you're not thinking this through.

Physically strong, but mentally weak seems to be the trend. Maybe mutating would be a better word. Steriods, Preservatives, and who knows what other miracle grow stuff they put into the food is doing something. Attention spans of people are shrinking to minutes/seconds. Good parenting is rare at best. Good Manners, Common Courtesy, and Morals are trending downwards.

Seems to me people are growing wider, not taller. The nation's obesity rate, especially among children, is skyrocketing.

Haha, very true, but thats not evolution :p ..it's fat and fastfood

(Aug 22 '10 at 20:00) Phoenix7 Phoenix7's gravatar image

Evolution is just a theory, not a law. So it would not be called evolution.

I just think that people are getting nourished correctly now so they grow a lot bigger and better.

Yes, but a theory is something that can be proven true with scientic evidence. There's scientific evidence that supports evolution; therefore, it's a scientific theory :)

Good question! You deserve a thumbs up! I don't know anybody close to 7ft, but there are some people that could be and I don't know it.

Well of course... People adapt to fit their situations. It takes about a year for an adaptation. Hundreds for a noticeable one. By 1 year I mean for the human to reproduce and such. Technically 9 months but a year is easier. That child can adapt or "Evolutionize". But yeah, happens very slowly. Unlike germs which can evolve into a completely new germ in a matter of hours. Humans will take the longest due to our very long reproduction cycle. I hope this is what you were looking for.

People are getting taller. That's not new.

In the Middle Ages, wealthy people didn't eat as we do. Meat was occasion to celebrate, now it's daily.

Mmhm, it's unfortunate.. We weren't made to eat meat like most humans do.. It's not natural, and therefore is changing us in unnatural ways...

(Aug 22 '10 at 20:03) Phoenix7 Phoenix7's gravatar image

@Phoenix7, What makes you think that the medieval ways were the natural ones? Our actions cannot be divided into natural/unnatural. On one hand, everything we do is unnatural, because we're humans. On the other hand, verything we do is natural, because we're animals. Both true.

Check out the movie idiocracy. here's a link to the first 2 or3 minutes. It's an interesting if not frightening theory.

We eat better and more healthier , we have easily access to medical facilities so it's no surprise that+ we insert more vitamins and other stuff in our food.

We witness evolution all the time, we just don't recognize it as such.

Evolution is merely the random mutation of species' DNA over time. Every time a person comes out with a random genetic "defect", that's a form of evolution.

Obviously, most of the mutations are unsuitable for the environment and thus die, but that's evolution.

Evolution is a process that takes millions of years for complex organisms like humans. 7 foot tall people are still humans, not a whole new species of hominids. Minor changes that occur in a species (e.g. bacteria developing resistance towards antibiotics and drugs) are not speciation.

Even if HUMAN evolution is true, the evolutionary process HAD to have a CREATOR that created the evolutionary process to begin with.

(Aug 22 '10 at 21:26) BlazeEagle BlazeEagle's gravatar image

Why would the evolutionary process need to have had a creator?
