I am about to head off to university and am in the process of buying a nice new shiny Macbook Pro. I like the 15", since girls constantly tell me it's not about how big it is but how you use it (and the 15 inch has an Intel Core i7 chip), but I am still undecided.

I was thinking a 500gig hard drive or is that coming across too strong. The one thing that I am really struggling with is the 13inch model can last up to 10 hours but the 15inch only up to 8. Should I get protection? I hear Apple care can be quite pricey. I'm also not that sure about the screen. I can pay extra for a better resolution but is it all about the looks or the hardware behind it? I could use that money on more RAM.

Any thoughts on this from experienced people been at college/university would be awesome!

One of the more creative questions asked here in a long while. Well done! PS: Don't let your laptop get too warm, or the ladies will caress it instead of you. ;)

The 13inch is perfectly adequate (Thats what she said last night anyways!... lol) for most school/uni work, and as you say the battery is an advantage. I would now ask you, how long do you expect this relationship to last? If its purely a college relationship then I would suggest a 13inch model purely because the i7 is overkill... If you intend on playing the field (Games.. lol) then an 15inch with an i5 processor would be a good choice imo, an i7 processor purely for school is complete and utter overkill. You will only ever use its potential if you use lots of photo and video editing programs.

As for protection, you should always use protection and AppleCare at college is no exception... :) its certainly worth the extra expense to avoid having any problems that could incur an pretty hefty fee. Its not an insurance, its an extented warranty on the hardware aswell as telephone support. :) Remember you will be using your computer for long periods at a time, so its certainly worth protecting against hardware failure.

How good it looks on screen, well I have the 13inch MBP and I think the screen is absolutely gorgeous with the standard resolution. The 15incher with the better resolution would make it look even better however that much real estate is only useful if you are playing with Photoshop and such. For everyday use the standard glossy screen is fine...

As for memory, 4gb is plenty, again if you are using heavy programs then extra will be useful but other than that 4gb is adequate (again thats what she said)... lol

Hope this helps you :)

get nice flashy gaming laptop,

While mac book pro's are ok, you can get more performance from a gaming laptop, and they tend to look more unique as unlike apple, other companies like to constantly change things up.

After that, you get get a picture of a cute fennec fox, laser etched into the lid of the laptop

You'll see a lot of Macbook Pros around campus, so the only thing you'll attract is computer theives.

I recommend getting an Axiotron : Modbook®. It's what the iPad should've been. You can offer to sketch the pretty ladies. It has built-in GPS, so your location based services will work. You can handwrite your notes ... more.

Personally, I have a 13" MacBook Pro and that doesn't seem to have any effect on the ladies. It's awesome but the girls I'm after don't really give a crap about what computer I have. They all are just too damn busy with their own lives. Take it from a 4th year college student. Try hooking them with something else like doing whatever they are into. If you like going to vents on campus, that is how you'll meet the fun loving chicks.

Really, any of them, because the specs and features are so awesome and the operating system works so well. But i'd get the 13in because of the battery advantage.

Let's be honest- MacBook Air is going to get you the ladies. It's the Porsche of Macs- Small, fast, compact, maybe overcompensating a bit. And it's light, so you can pick up quickly and go back to her place. Don't go to college bookstore though- go to a site like AppleSliced or Pricegrabber and get it there to save $$$.
