Are there any Disc Jockeys (DJs) in LockerGnome? | Would you kindly pass along what's needed to SPIN these days? I previously SPUN, but that was years ago with vinyl records. I'm interested in getting back to SPINNING a few gigs to supplement my income. If you SPIN and/or know of anyone that is willing to share some knowledge, PLEASE DO!

My DJ friend uses software called "serato Scratch Live" which runs on his mac, and works in conjunction with some hardware called "Rane" you can read about it HERE

Thanks. I'm looking to find the best bang for my money. I'd rather not buya Mac, and use the iPad & iPhone, etc.

Serato scratch Live also works on windows, If you want a professional solution this is your answer, most djs in clubs use this setup, you won't find any djs using ipads and an iPhone. Although I am aware some do (I've seen the YouTube videos) but quite honestly they look stupid and unprofessional!

I am a DJ but i have invested so much money in CDJ1000MK3 and the DJM800 plus AmpedSpeakers and subs that even trying new ways and technology is forbiden (for now)!
To be honest i didn't really understand what you want help with, if it is equipment then you should make a list of what you have that you could use in "spinning" (god i hate it when i hear that! no offence just my opinion) then decide how you are gonna use that and what you need to get ready.
Start small! like small gatherings and work your way up as you earn money (and better equipment.
As for speakers try not to get a large number of them but rather a small but powerfull set (saves time setting up and setting down).
The smartest thing you could do (since you are a geek) is try to enter the digital djing with the knowlidge you allready have! a very good example of that is serato and serato (difrent links) witch is also able to connect with the i-Pad/Phone/Pod for cool effects and supliment playing.
What i have learned as a DJ is

  1. that it takes time to develop skills djing (practice practice practice,
  2. charisma to impress owners of clubs and managers,
  3. courage to endure the downfalls,
  4. and support from good friends and family

I am sorry if my answer is not exactly what you looking for but i cannot view Djing as a supplement for income, i just can't see how beeing a modest "spinner" (ugh i hate myself for using that, and laughing at my self at the same time) could get you money! But that is just me!
Also may i say that the best money out there for a DJ is in stripclubs... yeah ironic right? you make the most when the listen to you the least!!!
For anything just ask, this is one of my favorite topics!

No, but some of those gadgets look pretty cool. I have setup some sound systems though, one of which was for someone to DJ a school dance.

It was AMAZING to watch DJ @RanaJune spin'n on dual iPads. It looked like you need small fingers to do what she was doing. @ChrisPirillo, @VideoNurse, and others pulled of a wonderful event #MagicEve Thank you for streaming it live =0p...

Rana Sobhany, http://twitter.com/ranajune , rocked the house over the weekend at the iPad Dev Camp in Silicon Valley and here we learn how she was DJ'ing there. You can find her DJ site at http://www.destroythesilence.com/ and she's put all the apps she's using here: http://www.destroythesilence.com/apps

Hey r0bErT4u, thanks for the shout out. The event for Paint It Pink last nite was so much fun, and Rana June is really fun to watch. Certainly for the iPad and Looptastic (the app she runs on dual iPads), small fingers help, but as long as you don't have long fingernails (lol), it's actually fun to use.

Thanks for Chris doing the streaming. PNK Ultra Lounge is a new venue, and if it weren't for the extra firewire camera from Reza and geekery from Chris, the livestream wasn't going to happen. More people need to see Rana in action.

I think you should check out butterscotch.com 's Lucas from their series, "Pimp My PC"
He's currently a DJ and talks about it all the time in his video's. You can email him through the site, and I'm sure he'd be glad to help.

The Oldest DJ in The World – 70-Year Old Grandma | 70-year-old Ruth Flowers is a living example that age shouldn’t get in the way of things you’re passionate about. Like Bette Calman, the Yoga super-granny, Ruth does extraordinary things, for her age. Known as “Mammy Rock“, around the European club scene, Ruth Flowers is probably the oldest professional DJ in the world. The British granny wears bling-bling headphones, trendy clothes and sports an electrifying hear-do as she works the turntables in popular clubs, in France.

Mammy Rock’s career began when she was 65. Her grandson was celebrating his birthday in a London nightclub, and asked Ruth to join him and his friends. There were a few problems with the bouncers, who didn’t feel right letting a senior citizen inside such an establishment, but as soon as she stepped in, Mammy Rock was bewitched by the lively atmosphere that made her feel so much younger. Even though some have said it all seems like a joke — and yes, part of the act’s appeal comes from its novelty – the proof is in the pudding. We think she’s actually really good!

Thanks for posting on my question. As u most likly already know yes I am a dj and I make YouTube mixes I love the way that the modern dj integrates with the computer and even iPad do a YouTube search for numark idj pro it looks very nice for a dj who does not want to use loads of fx and who does not want to go spend £1500 each on cdj 2000. Or £1600 on a pioneer djm 900 nexus. But be warned I'm using a numark im9 mixer at the moment and it is falling to bits you always get what you pay for if u want to move about it is going to get the odd knock so if u can buy pioneer it will last for years. Ps not the djm 250 I had a go on one and it felt so flimsy if u want a 2 channel get the djm 350. The djm 700 also feels very sturdy.
