Some trailers and movies have been shot in 1440p, and HD televisions would only need a resolution bump to have the ability to play 1440p video. So will it become a HDTV standard?

yes, it will, but only once we find a way of making it more cost effective, the other factor is the size, if we have a 1440p on 19" screen think how squashed it will be
