We all know and love our iPhone 4. And it's unquestionable that iOS4 was an amazingly vast stride forward in iOS and just mobile operating in general. But what's to come with the fifth iteration of the legendary hardware and software that make the iPhone amazing?

I'm sure FaceTime will be over 3G ...or perhaps even 4G??

But what else? what else do you think? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh...the possiblities :)

All the stuff already said + I would like to have a bigger screen, laser keyboard some functionality that you can protect your iPhone like a fingerprint addon. And yeah also more ram if they can stick 1tb in my laptop they sure can stick it in an iPhone right?

And yet again an unanswerable question has been dubbed 'answered'. An opinion based question CANNOT be answered!

Think in the mind of a developer. Apple's devices are only as strong as the people behind them that do all of the work. It is hard trying to make sure that your device is compatible with so many different screen sizes. Apple needs to stick with what they have.

That is good. This question was meant to think about how it could get even better. Bigger screen maybe? 4 inches? 1.2 gzh processor? Better notifications? Maybe widgets? Facetime over cellular? 4G network? Verizon? Better battery? Super AMOLED screen? Maybe even 3D features like the 3DS that you can toggle? With a 3D camera? And something I reallllly want - live backgrounds

In my descriptions I said how nice the phone and OS was. But something you need to know is that there will always be room for improvement. That's just a few possible features I would like to see. You missed the point of the question in that it's look to the future to dream, not hold onto what already exists.

you just listed everything that the iphone 4 already has! :|

I think the key to the next iOS is that the more battery intensive features should have an option to allow the user to turn the feature on or off, much like push notifications can already be toggled on or off.

So, the toggle-able features that I'd like to see implemented in the next iOS are:

  • Java (of course, this would be set to off as a default as it would drain the battery life)
  • Full-screen browsing
  • Adjustable Wifi connect settings (allowing the user to search for Wifi access points more frequently or less frequently than every 5 seconds)
  • iOS screen capture (in the form of video, not just screenshots)
  • A "double tap to launch" feature, so that icons are not mis-pressed

And some additional features would be:

  • Folders within folders
  • Allowing the user to create blank transparent icons (in the case that the user has a background that is obscured by icons)
  • Customisable folder icons
  • The ability to be able to move more than one icon at once

iPhone 5 -

  • 8 MP rear camera with 1080p video capture and playback
  • 2 MP front camera
  • 1.2 GHz dual core processor (possibly Tegra 2)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 32 and 64 GB capacities
  • 4G connectivity
  • Same screen resolution
  • Stereo speakers

iOS 5 -

  • Better notification system (FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!)
  • Gesture controls (as demonstrated on 4.3 for iPad)
  • THEMES
  • Improved photos app which lets you get info about the pictures and videos like when they were taken, their size and stuff (I mean, why is it not there already???)
  • SBSettings and Activator built in! :P
  • Better camera app (more settings for taking pictures and videos such as ISO, contrast, filters and various video qualities like 360p, 480p, 720p, etc.)

That's about it for now!

Apple won't use a tegra. It'll be one of theirs, as it allows them to keep the cost down a little

I would love to see mobile hot-spot capabilities (same pricing as iPad's 3G service), maybe improved FaceTime with the ability for text and speech to text. iOS 5 needs to have support for screen sharing so if there is a problem or an app that somebody wants to show off, they can give access to other by typing in either their phone number or e-mail.

are you retarded? you want it to be thinner and to be able to film in 3d, that would require 2 or 3 video cameras at 3 different angles making the phone thicker, and also taking space away from he battery, so it would last less time, the phone may heat up more, and would be thicker. and that display is more than a conventional lcd display

Everyone knows that 3D is not the future. Apple has clearly stated that Flash has a very unlikely chance of making it on the iPhone. I know that a lot of the things that you are saying are things that are something that isn't something that will really make the device better.

Apple believes in the future, and at least five of them aren't the future, and could never possibly make your experience any better.

Dont want to sound like im ripping you apart... but on the retina display point. There is no point. The current retina display has passed the threshold of human sight. We would not be able to see the difference now if they added more pixels.

3D is a fad so doing any of those 3D things would be stupid. A higher size resolution display would be pointless. Flash will NEVER come to the iPhone. REal multi-tasking is also pointless, its fine the way it is.

The biggest reason why apple wont put in flash is because that they don't want you to be playing online games because that would take away from the App Store market

showing 5 of 6 show all
  • 2560 x 1600 screen resolution.
  • Better / Quicker Browsing.
  • 1 GB Ram
  • Multitasking capabilities
  • Flash is a big need for me, so they need that.

I don't really understand how just because Steve Jobs thinks Flash is crap that no one else uses it, it's kind of ridiculous. Just about every site uses Flash. Where the hell is HTML5?

You can already multi task.

(Aug 22 '10 at 16:42) Madison Tries Madison%20Tries's gravatar image

All of those are stupid. It doesn't need a higher resolution as it would be pointless, browsing is pretty fast already, 1GB is good I guess, It already has multi-tasking and Flash is horrible on mobiles and Apple will NEVER put it in iOS.
