Over the year(s) I've made some notes about iphone security. I'm planning to buy one at some point and wanted to find out exactly what they mean.

1) In order to protect yourself from viruses you should change the default password. Would this be referring to a locked password?

2) The other note I made was not leaving SSH running all the time. I'm not ever sure what this is.

Nope. You don't have to worry about any of those problems that you've listed. Only Jailbroken (hacked) iPhone owners have to worry about those. The iPhone doesn't come with OpenSSH installed, therefore there is no passwords to change, nor is there any servers running that need to be turned off. But settings a passcode lock on the device itself is a good idea so nobody can erase everything off your phone, read your text messages, etc., etc. I also recommend purchasing a license of MobileMe, where you can see your phone on an accurate location anywhere where it is connected to the internet on a map, you can send a message to it, so a thief or finder may see it and return it to you, you can also play a sound for 2 minutes long that over rides the volume limit and over rides the mute function, you can remotely lock it, and remotely wipe it. I think its an excellent deal.
