I would like to connect my Windows 7 PC to another PC in the same house running Windows Vista. Both PCs are on the same wireless network. So, by connecting I mean: access the files of the Windows Vista PC without interupting anything (without taking control of everything or having a message pop up) and transfer some files to my Windows 7 PC. To put it in a simple way, I want to use something like Homegroup but that works using a Windows Vista machine and a Windows 7 machine. Is it possible to do that for free? If so, how? Thanks and I look forward to your answers! |
If you're new to file sharing, this article will help you understand why it's useful and—broadly—how it works in Windows 7. For step-by-step instructions, see Share files with someone. I guess I will try the remote desktop service integrated into Windows, I'll get back and tell you if it worked, thanks for the suggestions! :) |

On your Windows 7 PC, open Windows Explorer, press F1 for help, enter Homegroup for instructions. It is very easy to setup between PCs running Vista and Windows 7. For XP, not so easy because you have to use the old "File and Printer Sharing" method. Homegroup is still "File and Printer Sharing" but because you are using Vista and Windows 7, Microsoft made it easier for the Home user. Biggest issue is to make sure that all of the PCs are online when you setup your Homegroup. Good luck |

Alright, thanks everyone for the answers. I found a way to share files between the two PCs, so this topic can now be closed. Thanks again for the help! |
