What I'm trying to ask is, why is it always a green screen, and hardly ever a different colour? Every so often one might see blue used, but the majority is green.

I don't know anything about special effects...

Green is the farthest color away from the color of human skin and green clothes are not worn very often....though they do have blue screens as well.

Generally you can chroma key any color. It is just that some colors may cause problems if you key them out. if people have to wear green then use a blue screen, if you have people using green and blue then pick another color that is not in the scene.

for me, I use a program called ULTRA (Serious Magic Ultra 2), It is the easiest chroma keyer that I have ever used, simply point the camera at the scene with no one in it, then using it's auto key option, it will scan every pixel and give it it's own chroma key, this completely blanks out the scene and gets rid of any imperfections in the backdrop or lighting problems.

It also stands out more... I use a green screen for alot of my work and they are good ;P

Blue is also used as its the next best to green, Iv had to film one with blue as i needed green clothing.

that and what they call a blue screen are good because they are high contrast colors and it makes it easy for them to add the effects.

I was hoping someone was going to say "Because it's green".

did a test today, if you have almost perfect lighting, you can key out red and still keep skin tones (as long as your skin is not too far into the red), chroma keying is very targeted

The only color that really doesn't work, is black, it leads to a lot of clipping and effects colors that shouldn't have anything to do with it.

White also doesn't really work
