Should internet be free and why?

Some places do offer free Wifi, but on the whole i dont think it should be free, if it was you would have no control over connection speeds (the more you pay the faster you get, usually), if it were free you would get what your given and wouldnt really be able to complain. It would be nicer if it were cheaper though :P

No. The isp has to make money, and its not super expensive right now. If it were free we wouldent have the huge advances in speed that we have now.

It should, because it's not like half the things you get on the internet you pay for anyway. People jailbreak their iphone and ipod touches just so they can get free apps and then people torrent, no one pays any attention to people who advertise like google. So what is a small internet fee going to do??!!!

Yes, it will allow people and school's who don't have as much money as the rest of us to learn.

i think yes. First of all, informations are now shared on the internet. No matter news, financial and even education are now through internet.

By providing internet for free, we can make sure everyone on the planet to have an equal opportunity to access information and to receive education. To narrow the digital divide and the development gaps between countries.

Why should it be free? Because the internet makes its god damn money through advertising! You can't do shit on the internet without ads they are everywhere even on streaming videos. Why the fuck should people pay for that shit? If people pay for the internet they shouldn't have to deal with ads in the first place.

Honestly, I don't think it should be free. It the internet were free, then the internet providers would have no competition with one another because they aren't getting paid to give you access to the internet. Connection speeds between internet companies will get slower, and people, and businesses will have losses. What would Lockergnome be like if connection was very slow? Lockergnome sure probably would not have 5,000 videos on Youtube.

fact is nothing is free even in places that offer free wifi someone is paying :)

there is so many resources being used to keep the internet running it is hard to imagine..

the electric alone is prohibtive then there is the cost of satelite up link down link , cost of fiberopic cables that wrap the globe, the people to get that in place the people to repair and keep it running the cost of the router servers in the billion they number if not more just equipment..

people cant live for nothing in the end more then 50% of the worlds income today is services based most all services today in one way or another link to the internet and computers it forget the income generated think of the unemployment numbers who would show up to fix things if they were no longer paid .. who would spend $$ on R &D for no return ever ???
