I wanted to know if marriage between siblings is normal in japan? I am asking because now a days in many but a lot of anime, live action films and shows from japan involve relationship between siblings both blood related and not blood related(adopted or remarriage with one son/ daughter each side) not that I have something against it is kinda creepy(I think is the right word) thought. I want to know because I like to learn stuff about Japanese culture and its something I have not found in the internet and I am kinda curious. So do you guys now the answer?, and what do you guys thinks about it? |

Marriage between blood-related siblings is illegal but marriage between siblings by adoption/remarriage is permitted. My views: Blood-related=gross. Not blood-related=ok. |

In the 11 years that I grew up in Tokyo I have never heard of this. I don''t believe it to be true. I'm not saying that there aren't a few that do it. |

It may happen as it may anywhere else in the world, but not in my experience in any large enough numbers as to be seen or acknowledged, I once travelled extensively throughout Japan, although this was many years ago and although there were some strange people I came in contact with, overall they were I found a most smart, engaging and lovely people. |

Also if we are talking about Anime & Manga as your base, be aware they sell more to the Western nations than to the Asian nations in the incest form and alot of Manga & Anime artists have fallen into the trap of creating this type of story to 'FEED' if you will the cravings of the West more than the East |

It is a taboo in most cultures including Japanese culture. It is one of the few taboos that are not based on religion but instead science. incest causes rapid genetic degradation. (well known examples include certain "royal" families who practiced incest and ended up giving birth to crazy people) Some labs that test drugs on animals will often inbreed the animals in order to remove as many confounds. eg, having a set of rats that will be bread in a clean room for a few generations, thus ending up with rats that will not get you sick if you handle them all day long, and also get stronger statistics of the effects of a drug. Only issue is the animals used in labs in this way, are often blind or nearly blind, they may have bad hearing. They may often also have emotional issues, increased abortions (for lack of a better word). |

Incest in Anime is really just a fetish for some Japanese people, and a lot more who aren't even half Japanese. |
