Whats with the name? Why are they named the way they are? |

"Steve Averill, a punk rock musician and family friend of Clayton's, had suggested six potential names from which the band chose "U2" for its ambiguity and open-ended interpretations, and because it was the name that they disliked the least" ---- Wikipedia |

And here I thought it was about my (in)famous but distant cousin, Francis Gary Powers, who, by not taking the cyanide pill after getting shot down effectively gave Russia concrete proof that the U.S. was spying on them in the cold war era. Shows what I know. lol |

Hi IGeek3, You have the most thumbs up here, but I believe you are wrong. I am 100% Irish and we over here believe it is from a social welfare form called U2, they would have needed this to get money from the state.
English group UB40 had the same idea, this is also a form.
I double checked this answer before i posted it and 30% of Irish people think its the plane to, So I will just say I thought it was the Social Welfare form. But the next time I see them I will ask.
