I need a external hard drive. It has to be at least 100 gb. It also needs to be cheap. It has to be USB. Any suggestions? I am copying my desktops files over to my laptop. My desktop is going to be sold to my parents. :) |

you will have a lot of trouble finding a 100GB drive. why not get a 1TB drive and just resize the partition to 100GB then make the rest a hidden partition if you only want 100GB? Also if you do find a 100GB drive, you will get less than 100GB as computers like to use 1024 MB per GB while hard drive companies like 1000MB per GB forgot to add, if you are going to run a external drive 24/7 on in hot areas, open the enclosure or point a fan at it, if not, the drive will run at the edge or a little over it's recommended temperature and die after a few months. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822186132 |

You don't have to get a large hard drive either. You can pick up a 250GB one for about $50. You don't have to spend $100 for a terabyte, but I think that it is better for the money that you pay. |

Best thing to do is go on ebay and I am sure you will find something on there that will interest you. |

If you are looking to just transfer files from one computer to another why not just get a cross over cable and transfer files directly. All you have to do is plug them into each other, assign a static ip to each and your set to go. There are videos on YouTube. Total cost $15. |

Often a small drive is not as good value for money as buying a 500gb to 1tb drive. I had this exact problem as I wanted a drive for just work and could I find a cheap 160gb - 250gb, hell no! 500gb oem sata hdd on amazon.com (2.5) $44, get a case for it and $3 so $47 total. The case should come with the connectors too so you won't need to get sata power and data cables. Pre-boxed on amazon you are looking at around $70. Link to it please??? I screwed up on the case. The drive is 3.5 and the case 2.5. If you can find a cheap case for it then it might still be the way to go. Ok. And the case just pops on and I can have it as USB? yep. search for hard drive enclosure or hdd caddy or usb hard drive case. Remember to get one the same size as the drive you end up getting (2.5 or 3.5 inch) |
