It seems to me that there are $15 USB microphones and $150 USB microphones... The microphone in my Logitech QuickCam Pro just isn't as good as I want my microphone to be for video calls, which I do a lot of. I also do short interviews in which I usually just capture sound with an inexpensive microphone from Best Buy. I was thinking of buying the Samson CO3U Podcasting Pak ($199). I will if that's what I need to get really good sound, but I was wondering if anyone knew of some sort of in between microphone?

I favor the MXL 990 Condenser Mic But you have to buy an XLR to USB interface with "Phnatom Power" support. but its well worth it!! the Mic is about $50 and you can find a very good XLR to USB interface for about another $50 to $60. (I bought all of it on Amazon).

Thanks I'll look into it.

The Blue Snowball ($79) is an option. I don't have personal experience with it, but I know podcasters who have used it. Blue also makes the "Yeti" ($101) which is a step up from the Snowball.

Personally, I use the Rode Podcaster ($229) but it's a bit pricier than you were aiming at, once you factor in the shockmount and mic stand, which the podcasting pack you mention includes in its $199 pricetag.

The yeti is a extremely good microphone. It is now at a similar price to the AT2020 that chris uses but it offers better sound (wider response range and is louder)

I'll take a look at the Yeti, however, the podcasting pak is looking increasingly tempting. Thanks!
