1) Is there anyway to "lock" an icon into place? I keep my System Preferences to the far right of my Dock, so when I open an App that isn't in my dock, it gets pushed over. Is there anyway to stop this?

2) Is there anyway to keep the Applications, Documents, and Download stacks looking like folders?

i.e,: This

  1. Using Administration tools like Mac OS X Server's Workgroup app, you can lock a client's dock to a set of apps and stacks and make it unchangable.. you may be able to do this with a regular or limited user in the System Preferences of a client machine as well. As for an Admin account (the default), there is not a way to do this, unless you mess with the preference files maybe. As for when non-docked items are launched, they are always pushed onto the right side of the application section. The best bet you could do, is move the System Prefs to the far left side.

  2. Right click a stack and set the display to "Folder". It'll use the icon that you've set as the folder of the stack.

Wow, that was a lot easier than I expected. Thank you!

Right click the stacks and select view as folder. Note: if you have changed Apps, Documents or Downloads icons from the finder they will appear as those icons when you select folder.
