I bought an iMac, so I gave my PC to my mom. After she bought a wireless adapter, I hooked it up for her, but the pointer randomly goes to corners (Usually top left, or bottom right), and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong.

Things I've tried:

  • Unintalling/Reinstalling the Mouse's driver.
  • Going through mouse and keyboard settings
  • I have even tried putting the mouse back to the USB port it's usually in.

None of these worked at all for me. Is there anything else I should try?

If it's a Tower System Unit

  1. Try to make another user profile and see if it still happens.
  2. Try another mouse.

If it's a laptop:

  1. Try turning off/disabling the trackpad.
  2. Try cleaning the trackpad. Collected dirt can sometimes have this affect on trackpads.
  3. Try another mouse.

In both cases, try to change the batteries. Try a wired mouse and see if it still happens. What materlal is it scannin on, since it a optical a lot of optical mouses have a hard time reading shiny or transparent surfaces.

Great answer. Everything you need to attempt is right there! If after trying all of these, report back.

Thank you, sir. I try my best, with the occasional Google Instant search for a little reference to back up my answer!

Thanks a lot for your guys' help. I tried making a new account, it still went crazy, then I tried booting into Linux, and was still going crazy. I rummaged through my "old tech" closet (That's what I call it) and found an old Mouse. Works perfect.
