I've recently put in charge of heading a broadcast team who is responsible for broadcasting all our high school football games live. Does anyone have some suggestions for some good freeware which will help us produce a professional looking broadcast. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you are broadcasting as, whether it be television broadcasting or webcasting. I hate to be the barer of bad news, but there's no way to create a professional looking broadcast for free. I've been there, I've consulted a lot of people over the years on subjects like this.
The High School here produces professional college level football broadcasts, but they've spent 10s of thousands of dollars to do it.. buying systems like the VT5 and ProHD JVC studio cams (priced around $9000). They are still trying to get their quality higher.
I'm not saying it's impossible without spending thousands though, in fact you could probably do it with a budget of about $500 or less if you have much of the live studio equipment like cams, switchers, mixers, monitors, tape decks, etc. Look into Wirecast, it's for Mac OS X and Windows.. it cost $449. You can use free softare like CamTwist Studio, but it wont be professional looking. You'd need something that allows compositing multiple layers of media together, live.. and a computer capable of handling the CPU/GPU intensive task.
