Today I set up my FileZilla FTP server and about 2 hours later I checked up on my server. I noticed that some something or someone was trying to get into my server(keep in mind that I have not had the server running for long so no one could have a username or password.). This person made loads of failed appemts to get into my server but failed. I then noticed that he was trying again to get in one of the accounts (Guessing usernames and passwords) so I banned his IP and not heard from him/her since. I decided to find out some how, how to track this person by using the IP so I decided to use the TRACERT command in command prompt. This is what I got .ip.secureserver.net. Who the hell are they and what are they doing trying to connect to my FTP? Thanks for reading. |

It might not even be a person -- once a hacker compromises one system, s/he can turn that hijacked system into a "zombie" that then spends its time attacking/attempting to break in to other systems. I'm not familiar with FileZilla, but unless you absolutely need a public FTP server running, turn it off and lock down the proper ports. Anything that is left open will be hit by computers and individuals trying to probe Internet-connected computers for weaknesses. |

Of course someone is trying to hack you! Well, not someone, but something. Other computers scan for vulnerable systems to infect. If you don't already know this, I'd suggest not running server software until you're correctly trained to do so. Learn how to set up FreeBSD first. |
