If it's old the LED light inside of it just might have went out. That's my best guess. Shouldn't be to serious, but if anything comes up contact someone to fix it, perhaps Apple.
i thought LED's didn't blow?
Yes, they do. They have a very long life, but the do eventually die. Source: My mom is an energy auditor.
would it be easily replaceable?
Probably not, without going to a genius bar, or calling tech support. I would not open your computer because it could void your warranty.

How old is your MacBook Pro? I guess it's possible that the LED stopped working but I would think they would last for awhile.
It's only coming on to nearly a year old now. It's a young thing
If it's less than a year old it's covered by Apple Care and I'd take it in NOW before it hits the 1 year mark. Apple might be able to replace what's wrong with it for free. Call them up and if it's something like this the call should be free.
