What is a good small, compact video camera?

I own a Flip video camera, and like it for the most part. There is not enough weight behind it for me to hold it steady enough as I'd like.

I've been looking over the Sanyo Xacti's, and I really like those, too, but I'm not sure about how steady they are, via hand holding.

I'm really looking for a good HD (preferably full) video camera with image stabilizing, since I will not have a tripod with me 95% of the time. I'm having a child in six months, so these videos will mean the world to me. Price wise, I would not want to spend over $400-$500 max.

I'm open to other camera brands, also. I'd also like to keep good battery life; fairly small size, like the Sanyo Xacti VPC-SH1; and decent image stabilization, if possible.

I'm sure someone can come up with something. Thanks for the input.

I would recommend that you keep your flip video hd because of the quality and it is quite small to fit into your pocket. Ever thought about getting the iPhone 4 or iPod touch 4th generation because they have got 720p cameras as well and you have all the fun of the iPhone os!!

Well, I got a 3GS already, but as you know it does SD video. I was looking for something that handled light better, had stabilization, and was more of a dedicated tool, just for video. The Flip doesn't do full 1080, which I want, and no stabilization, which I also want. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

My brother just bought a Sony Handycam HD. Not sure of the specific model. But I'm sure you could look it up. He got his from BestBuy's website (with a coupon) for $549. It looks great and it's not a bad price.
