Hello all, I'm looking into setting up a home server for file sharing so I can upload files to it and download files from any computer using a simple upload box that is to be password protected. Have you got any suggestions in how I should do this? I also want to buy a domain name that has already been purchased by someone (Burgess.com) say the current owner lets me buy the name how would I go about transferring it to my home server? If they do not and I have to buy a new domain how would I set that up? Thank you.

It'd be way cheaper and easier, not to mention much more secure, just to pay for one of the file hosting services or even a web hosting account with a very generous file storage limit.

Otherwise, if you want to spend the money, get something like an HP MediaSmart Home Server but it's going to cost you a tidy sum and you're going to have security headaches/hassles if you open up its web-based file sharing capabilities (I have mine locked down tight.)
