Is the Use of Facial Recognition: Good or Bad? - Facial Recognition Technology has been around for some years, and continues to get better & better. Casinos use the technology to keep out undesirables. Law Enforcement has used the technology to capture criminals. There are big photo databases out there with Facebook, Twitter, Linked[in] ... more. Almost everyone has a camera-phone. --- Are we are just a click away from a Minority Report type world!?

yes there a true reason to be worried about this but also great merits. I would love to say this world is free and we have can what we want. Well thats a lie but we still need security so having facial recognition makes it a safer world right? Well I think that while corporations and capitalism still control this world then you don't want this type of technology. Until we have companies that care and take responsibility for their actions then we can't trust them. I mean look at the media companies that used Thepiratebay tracker to collect data about people torrenting? (whether you agree with torrenting is irrelevant) They don't have the right to collect data and information about you. I know I've had several letters from my ISP stating "We suspect you maybe torrenting ilegal data" Sending me a warning before i ring them and display anger on them. I only use bitorrent for downloading legal content. So they are monitoring and throttling data because they can even if your innocent. (i'm going a bit off topic) So yes it also has its merits such as the facebook technology to help automate tagging of friends in photos and videos. Technology like that is a great way for social media to advance to a greater level. Sorry for the rant |

if it puts bad guys behind bars its good, if it is used for more undesirable things then its not. facial recognition like many things are a good thing if not abused; however, if abused it is not a good thing. i personally feel that it is not an invasion of my privacy, if I'm in public, how much of an expectation to privacy to i have? people may say but then they can track you down and retrace where you have been... but they can do that anyways with debit/credit purchases. every system has the potential to do good, not all are used that way. |

Personally I would call it stalking but hey you know what if it does help put bad people behind bars I am ok with it......as long as it isn't me lol. |

If you are interested about Face recognition I can propose you one great free to download book which inspire some future ideas by identifying potential research directions. This book will serve as a handbook for students, researchers and practitioners in the area of automatic (computer) face recognition. You can find it here: http://www.intechopen.com/books/show/title/face_recognition |

If I start getting robots knocking on my door and saying "Greetings Sebastian" like spam emails, I'll kick them in the e-face and slam the door shut ;) |
